Summary: As a pioneer in designing open spaces, a Window and Door
company is seeking a creative and dynamic member to design and
development of new innovative products. Responsibilities will
include improvements to existing product to improve performance or
manufacturability. The Product Engineer 2 will be supporting the
development of high quality aluminum extrusions, contemporary wood
products and product test support. It involves working in a
fast-paced environment in support of new product development and
innovation. Working closely with Senior Product/Product Engineers
and Designer/Drafting department team members to carry out a
variety of product designs and projects by adapting and applying
engineering techniques, materials and concepts.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
This is a Mid-Level Position and requires some training and
supervision by Senior Product Engineers and Product Engineering
Manage design projects with some complexity.
Manage/supervise work done by Designers and Product Engineer 1.
Apply engineering background to develop unique solutions to
Leader/Member of brainstorming groups.
Leader/Member of design reviews.
Identify the requirements of product development projects on a per
project basis and work through the group to fulfill those
Participate as a team member and at times lead multi-disciplinary
Coordinate testing and certification of all the products under
Communicate with suppliers as required.
Review drawings and Product Change Requests for accuracy.
Creates mechanical/architectural drawings with a mid-level of
complexity by reviewing models, sketches, descriptions,
specifications, and supporting documents; conferring with Product
Engineers. The finished product must be a professional drawing
Prepares mid-level complex mechanical/architectural sketches and
drawings by rendering sectional, auxiliary, and multi-views,
sub-assemblies, pictorials, dimensions, and developments; producing
two- and three-dimensional orthographic projections using computer
aided design (CAD) and pictorial techniques; producing
three-dimensional (3-D) models.
Prepares 3D models for Designers to break them down into
assemblies, sub-assemblies and detail drawings.
Utilize the drawing number system within PDL/PDM.
Modifies drawings by analyzing, resolving, and incorporating
Maintain the project information within PDL/Share Point.

Cut Sheets - photocopies from supplier's catalogs with highlighted
Drawings - 11x17 prints
Perform preliminary drawing check before the drawing is submitted
to Checker or Senior Product Engineer.
Performs preliminary bill of material check.
Generate/check bill of materials for the Data Department.
Checks drawings/work done by other Designers and Product Engineer
Update red lines if required
Responsible for assisting in the Drawing, CAD and 3D Modeling
Communicate work load with Senior Product Engineer, Product
Build and test prototypes.
Maintain a sense of urgency/responsibility on a daily basis with
Ensure product designs are manufacturing friendly.
Review designs with plant personnel and JELD-WEN Engineering.
Work with and train Designers levels 1, 2, Senior and Product
Evaluates materials and makes recommendations.
Keep abreast of changes in the industry, materials and process
Work with VP and GMs to ensure that Product Engineering is meeting
Perform thermal analysis
Represents department in interactions with internal departments,
consultants and contractors and others.
BS in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering or related
Demonstrated ability to apply critical Engineering thought
processes to engineer, design, develop, recommend and implement
strategies and programs that address manufacturing operations.
Able to interface with outside suppliers and be able to co-design
component parts with vendors if needed, or as directed by senior
CAD and Drafting Skills, AutoCAD, Inventor, 3D modeling, GD&T
Understanding and application of tolerance and datum's and how to
Microsoft office (Word, Excel).
Experience: 3-7 years.
Mid-Level position in terms of the complexity of work.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Requires supervision and training by Senior Product Engineer.
Interfaces with outside suppliers.
Maintain a professional drawing system.
Proven track record for on time delivery and completion.
5-20% travel is anticipated.

Completes project within the estimated design hours as set forth by
the Senior Product Engineers.
Drawing errors caught in the drawing check/approval process.
