Job Description:
Support the mission of the AHLF by building an ever-increasing
network of organized volunteers and creating a formal database and
process including the logistics, tracking, organization and
communication efforts in relation to volunteers. This position
favors technologically savvy individuals.
Under the supervision of the Chief Operations Officer, the
Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for supervising volunteers and
providing direction, coordination, and consultation for all
volunteer functions within the foundation to strengthen public or
private programs and involve a community of supporters as described
in the duties outlined below. Challenges include working in an
unstructured environment with numerous interruptions throughout the
day. This position is responsible for volunteer recruitment,
orientation, recordkeeping, reporting and supervision of volunteer
activities.--The position for the right candidate has the ability
to move into management of the Volunteer Office adding retention
goals, project planning, including volunteer appreciation event(s)
and execution of all facets to the position.
Responsibilities:
Job Duties:
--- Create a formal recruitment plan, record-keeping database, and
Volunteer CRM system that allows the success of every team member
to understand any volunteer that comes through the door (with
exceptions of limited-hours volunteers)
--- Liaison with departments within the organization or with
organizations for we are recruiting volunteers (e.g. charities and
councils) to understand how they work, develop partnerships and
assess their volunteering needs
--- Generate appropriate volunteering opportunities and role
descriptions based on the needs of the organization
--- Promote and Volunteer (internally and externally) through
recruitment and publicity strategies and campaigns
--- Work through creating a robust Special Needs Volunteer/Intern
Program utilizing local agencies and reaching out to families in
the area as well as schools
--- Interview and recruit volunteers and ensuring they are
appropriately matched and trained for a position
--- Organize volunteers and provide inductions and training
--- Celebrate volunteering by nominating volunteers for awards and
organizing celebration events
--- Offer advice and information to volunteers and external
organizations through face-to-face, telephone and email contact
--- Collaborate on organizing profile-raising events to attract new
volunteers
--- Attend committees and meetings
--- Maintaining databases and undertake any other administrative
duties pertaining to volunteer work
Marginal Functions
--- Assist with contributing to newsletter for distribution and
eblast. Assist with membership recruitment and. Opening/Closing
support of the Discovery Center when needed.
--- Assist with guest's needs/interactions and gift shop
transactions.
Qualifications:
--- A motivated self-starter with a positive attitude and a high
level of personal integrity and business ethics who thrives in a
collaborative team environment.
--- Demonstrated capability to conduct one's self in a calm and
professional demeanor when dealing with the public and/or with
difficult situations.
--- Display strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication
skills.
--- Ability to multi-task.
--- Have the capacity to understand priorities and deadlines and
communicate failures of these tasks if applicable.
--- Likes to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple "hats"
to wear on any given day and time period.
--- People-oriented and customer service driven.
--- Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite of
software program and internet savvy
--- Ability to operate commonly used office machines, including
printers, computers, laminators, telephone system, and copy
machine.
--- Physical Requirements: Ability to be on your feet moving all
day; lifting up to 35 lbs.

The Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
located in Carlsbad, CA. The Foundation operates the Discovery
Center, a nature center with an extraordinary collection of
hands-on exhibits, walking trails, gardens, animal ambassadors, and
more. It also acts as the clubhouse for an array of environmental
educational programs, fundraising events, community gatherings, and
field trips, as well as private rental spaces for our members.
